What I often experience as a trainer, especially with triathlon beginners, is that the athletes often say that training was impossible when they gave feedback!
What I often ask myself then is: Was training on that day really impossible or is it rather that it was just too uncomfortable and the motivation didn’t fit?
A brilliant customer of mine the Vera F. Birkenbihl (straw in her head) always told the following story about such situations:
A successful manager has been with his wife for 20 years. The woman wants to go to the theatre, hike in the mountains, spend the weekend in Vienna, etc. The man never has time. There is always work and other things that are much more important. Then he falls in love with another woman and suddenly everything is possible again – very funny, isn’t it?
Training and exercise should ALWAYS be so high on the priority list that hardly a day without exercise is conceivable.
One thing is clear: Movement MUST and CAN’t always be awesome, but then you ALWAYS have time for yourself and your thoughts, and afterwards you always feel like a king or queen.
Actually training is very comparable to cleaning!
You have to ventilate!
Just like you ventilate your house, you have to ventilate yourself. You have to go out DAILY, breathing fresh air for only 10 minutes a day is enough to strengthen your immune system and get a clearer bulb. We send our children out into the fresh air because we know it does us good, but WHY do we think it doesn’t apply to adults?
You have to clean!
Once you’re out you can also move a little, get the blood moving. Burn the fat that gets stuck in the arteries. Burn the sugar that makes you sick. Activate your hormone production and use your muscles before they completely disappear and make you a nursing case.
You have to clean up!
Hardly anyone can live in a chaos, or clearly it goes but it is exhausting and very frustrating. When you move or train “basic endurance” you sort in the brain at the same time. Things that seem insoluble are quickly done after an hour of jogging. One hour of training a day makes you so productive and efficient that you get back much more than what the training cost you time.
Actually just everything!!
